A SWOT Analysis is a simple, yet powerful tool to help you
develop your business strategy, whether you’re starting a
start-up or guiding an existing company. SWOT stands for
Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Strength
and weaknesses are internal to the company that you are
trying to make. Things that you have some control over and
can change. For example, who is on your team, your parents
and intellectual property, and your location. Opportunities
and threats are external things that are going on outside the
company. You can take advantage of opportunities and
protect against threats, but you can’t change them. For
example, competitors, prices of raw materials, and customer
shopping trends. Finally, a SWOT Analysis organises your
top strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats untie
an organised list and is usually presented in a simple two by two grid.
Examples of a SWOT Analysis.

My own SWOT Analysis
My Strengths:
Prior to this course I have completed a Level 2 in Creative Media, I was awarded a Distinction for my work completed that year. With the knowledge of that year I feel like I know how to use the Adobe Software at a high standard and produce work at a high standard too. Another skill that would benefit me coming onto this course is my ability to work hard and work through challenges. Going through school I sometimes struggled to combat a challenge. This all changed when I arrived at college, I wanted to change and that I felt like it held me back in certain areas of my schooling. Due to the fact of my working through it, I feel like any problem that might arise in this moment of time. I wouldn’t turn away from it I would meet it head on and deal with it. To sum that up I see myself as a problem solver. Being a problem solver will benefit me on this course because with any software you are always going to run into slight problems, well I know I do! Therefore, any problem that did arise I would work through it, allowing me to complete my work on time. Another skill I would say I have is having good time management. This would allow me to complete any work that is due on time and not let myself fall into the trap of not being on top of my work. As I have mentioned I used the Adobe Software a lot in the L2 Creative Media course. Therefore, giving me knowledge to use the software like Adobe Photo-shop (which is my favourite) and Adobe Illustrator. These are the two softwares that I really took a liking too and I felt like I could really express my ideas in them. Last year, I made sure I was on time to all classes and made sure I never missed one. This was because I wanted to make the most out of my time and learn as much as I could within the course.
My Weaknesses:
In this section, I feel like without having the prior year I would be able to tell you the skills that I don’t know that would be beneficial in this course. But with the prior year and knowing what each software is about I feel like I don’t not know anything about the software. Saying that, I do know that there are certain areas in each software that I would want to improve on. For example, making my work in Adobe Photo-shop look more appealing and the finished product to be at a much higher standard than what I am able to produce at the moment. I wouldn’t say I struggle with the software but for me it is mainly understanding what else I can do with each software. For example, learning things that I didn’t know were there on each software that I am going to use. I feel like with Adobe Photo-shop I have only touched the surface in what I am able to do with it. There are so many pages unturned with that software. Meeting deadlines is not one of my problems, it is a real aim of mine to always have work completed on time and at the highest standard possible.
My Opportunities:
My main aim out of this course is to receive a Distinction in each year. I want to achieve this because it will put me in good stead after completing the two years. Hopefully after I have completed the two years, I will be able to find myself a job or even go to University. At the end of the two years I would like to obtain many skills, e.g. being able to portray someone’s idea into a piece of work. I want my work to be imaginative and tell a story and not something that just looks pretty. After the two years my goal is to go into the Graphic Design Industry and work my way up. Like I just mentioned my ideal job is to become a Graphic Designer and this course being graphics will hopefully help me obtain that. As this course is teaching me the basics of graphic design and will progress my learning in knowing the skills I need to know to become a graphic designer. My plan is after these two years if the job availability is scarce in my area, I will venture off to University and study for a degree, this will further my knowledge in graphic design and put me in good stead for finding a position with the world of graphic design.
My Threats:
I don’t find it hard to be punctual for any of my lessons. When I am in lessons, I enjoy them and wouldn’t want to miss them. My way of thought is that if I arrive on time to every lesson it will give me the necessary knowledge when out in the open world and looking to go into the graphic design industry. Sometimes fellow class mates can be distracted from their work at hand, but I know work needs to be completed, I zone out from them and focus on my work. I don’t really struggle with my phone being a distraction as I always think the work is always more important. I am quite a good multi- tasker but sometimes the multi-tasking can get on top of me and I do struggle but I always make sure that when the work is too much, I take a breather and get back on with it afterwards. I could tackle the multi-tasking threat in many ways, one way is mainly focusing on one piece of work at a time and once that one piece of work is completed I will work towards the next one.
