Anaglyph 3D
This term is the stereoscopic 3D effect achieved by encoding each eye's image using two separate colours. These colours are normally red and cyan. Anaglyph 3D images contain two different filtered images, one for each eye. This can be viewed by wearing 3D glasses, not the ones from the cinema but the ones made out of cardboard and have a red lens and a cyan lens for each eye. 3D stands for three dimensional and it is normally a two dimensional image manipulated to create the illusion of depth therefore creating that 3D affect. Depth is another area Anaglyph 3D images cover, it conveys the shape and dimensions of the objects in a photograph. It puts certain aspects into the front half of the image and other into the background of the image. Finally, 3D glasses use red and cyan lenses to interpret the image. The lenses produce the images you see by colour filtering the layered image. Once of the lens filters out all the red in the image and the other filters out the cyan in the image. Therefore you are producing a 3D image that you can see with your own eyes. Anaglyph 3D images are used in video games, posters, NASA mars rover imaging, kid magazines and lots more. Below you will be able to see a short video that shows how to turn an image into an Anaglyph 3D image.
To transform an image into an Anaglyph 3D image you have to start with choosing the image you want to change. I went for a space ship as you can see, to start with you should load your image up onto a photoshop file. Once loaded in duplicate that layer so you are creating two layers that display the same image. Now you have duplicated that layer you should lock the original layer, this will become important later on in the video. Now it goes to the interesting part you should click on the copied layer and find the fx tab located on the bottom right of the screen. Once clicked a new tab should pop up and you want to hit the option that says blending options. This will then create a new tab to pop up this new tab looks confusing but you are only on this step shortly. Once the new tab is loaded there will be 3 separate colours you can select and deselect. You want to deselect the green and blue tabs, therefore you are left with a red image. This is where the original layer comes into play, you are probably wondering where the red layer has gone. So want you want to do is select the copied layer and using the arrow keys move it in either direction slightly. Therefore you are able to see the red layer. It also reminds me of seeing something when it is glitched so once you see that you know you have done everything right. That concludes the short video on how to make an Anaglyph 3D image. All you have to do now is find those glasses you need to view the image in 3D. Overall i found this new skill quite easy, at the start i was concerned about how hard this might actually be but after finishing it i am quite happy to say i would be able to do it again without looking at any instructions. If i was to do this again i wouldn't change much as i don't think there is much to change the only real change i could think of would be changing the image.
Glitch Poster
After finishing the tutorial task it was time to venture of and create an Anaglyph 3D posters of our owns. The target word was Glitch, using this word allows me to create a wide range of different posters. The idea that i went for was to use error messages all on one page and have an old museum statue in the middle of the page. To document this i created a short time lapse, this is what you can see below this piece of text. At the start of designing this poster everything was going smoothly and didn't run into any large problems. It was only nearer the end of the creating time where i did run into some problems. There was one main feature i wanted to add to the design and that was a smooth gradient in a rectangle shape covering the eyes of the Museum statue. I tried countless times to get the gradient tool to work but it wasn't having it. What was happening when i tried to use the gradient tool instead of just changing the colour gradient inside of the rectangle it would get rid of the work surrounding it and also change the gradient of the whole page. You can imagine this is not what i wanted to happen when i used this specific tool. I did some research and tried everything i found so i settled for the next best thing and this was finding a colour that best suited the design. I tried quite a few colours and the best one i found was a dark red. This was due to the amount of reds included in the design as the error messages were from a computer all the buttons to close those documents were red so i decided to follow that theme and use that colour red. Another problem i run into was when i tried to turn the image into an Anaglyph 3D image. Without realising at the start of creating the design i put the document into a CMYK colour format, i only realised that this was wrong when i tried to turn one layer into only Red. The problem was easily fixed, all i had to do was change the colour mode to RGB and i was able to do what i needed to turn the image into 3D. Overall the outcome of the design was how i wanted it to be i debated putting the word glitch in but i thought that due to the amount of error tabs i had open i didn't want to crowd it anymore. If i was to complete this task again i would want to use a gradient in that rectangular box i mentioned before hand. Adding that i think would of really transformed the design.
As you can already see the video above is transformed into a time lapse, creating a time lapse is quite an easy thing to do. Below is a video showing how to transform your long videos into short and exciting time lapses. To start with you will need to create a new document, make sure you name it and change the file location to somewhere you know and can find later. Once the document has opened you should see a small location to place your videos on the bottom left of the screen. This area is part of your work space so before going to edit your work make sure you add all the work you will need, therefore it will make it easier for you when it comes to editing the videos. When i add my videos in i always make sure i unlink the two clips that load in when you add your video to the timeline. One of the clips is your mp4 video and the other is the sound that accompanies the video. Due to me not needing the sound in this video i will unlink them from one another and delete the lowest clip. Now you will be only left with one clip, once you have the singular clip you will need to right click and click on speed/gradient. This will load up a new tab where you can change how fast the video is playing. For the time i wanted to achieve i estimated that i would need the percentage to be between 400%-600%. I ended up going for 400% this left me with a 3 minute and 30 seconds video. To add sound to your time lapses you should go onto YouTube and look up free copyrighted music once found the right one look up on the internet a YouTube video to MP3 format. Once you have that YouTube video in the MP3 format it is time to add it to your Time Lapse document. Once you have dragged it into the document a new clip should appear on your time line. The mp3 clip might be too long for the video clip so to trim down the MP3 clip you should hover over the end of the clip and a red icon should appear once that has appeared you can click and hold to trim down that MP3 clip. Once that has been made the way you want it too, you will need to export the document into a H.264 Format. This format needs to be used as it is the most compatible with the most amount of software people use. Once the video is exported it means everything is complete, you have made a time lapse so enjoy watching it.
This is the final step of this design process, i will be turning the poster into an audio poster. This is all done on the website Canva, i have never touched this website before so it will be interesting to see how the software works. The first things i needed to do was have my poster in a PNG format and have a MP3 sound clip. So once i was on the website i had to upload both of these documents. First went the PNG, i dragged the PNG onto the blank white document and resized the poster to fit the space given by the software. Once i had that sorted i then dragged my audio file onto the document as well. Then a sound bar appeared at the top of my screen, this is where i could change the area of the sound i wanted to play. The software allowed me to make the Audio poster 5 seconds long so when the sound bar appeared i need to chose the best bit of the MP3 clip to fit the poster. Once all that was touched up and completed it was time to download the Audio poster in a MP4 format. This allows the video to be seen and also the sound to be played along side it. That concludes using that software, overall i found the software a bit confusing at points. For example when adding the MP3 clip to the poster i was unsure what to do. I don't know if it was because i am used to other software's but dragging the MP3 clip onto the poster didn't make much sense but in the end it all worked out. The poster i am very happy with and with the added sound it really helps give away the word i was trying to achieve, this being Glitch of course. If i was tasked with this again i would consider making something in the poster move, a cool idea could be to make the Red layer of the poster move side to side therefore making the poster look like it is really glitching.
