After finishing the last project there was some areas that I needed to work on. These included highlighting potential problems that I could encounter before they actually do occur. Another area that I could work on is slowing myself down when it comes to designing and work through each step at a slower rate. To solve the first problem, I spoke about I would give myself time to think before going into a design step. This time would include me thinking about different approaches I could make to differ the conclusion of that step. I would some what create a short plan for what I thought would be best for each design step. In the plan I would think about the approach I am going for then I would think about potential problems that could happen if I was to take that approach. Another way I could combat that problem is holding a focus group. By doing this I am showing other people my plan and ideas for a certain design step and by doing so I am getting another view at my plan and I would also cover the potential problems. Trying to find the potential problems by myself would be tricky, but when it a focus group you have more than one brain so you can only think of the possibilities of finding problems that could occur with the plan I put forward. Moving on for the next problem I could give myself more areas to cover. For example, for the start of each project you are tasked with thinking of an idea. I will use this project as an example, I started off by thinking of different flavours that I could create. After thought I came up with the idea to create Pumpkin Spice. This flavour enables me to go two ways either go with the Halloween route or the Autumn route. I found myself only going for one route. The way I could solve this problem and the thing I would change about the way I started this project. Is create sketches for both themes. I know for a fact that at the start of the project I only sketched one background design and this was only for one theme. So, to solve the problem that I highlighted I should be sketching at least 3 ideas and for this project I should have sketched at least 3 ideas for each theme. Not only would I have made it easier for myself I would of being able to generate a lot more ideas, as each time I am creating a sketch I am thinking of different ways I could further that design. The most effective piece of information that I gathered was defiantly the secondary research. This was my most researched area I looked at numerous different artists and how each artist has got their own unique touch. I know at the start of the project I wanted to create my own touch something that can only be related to me. This idea was only created by looking at all the different artists. For example, I looked at one, this artist was a typographer and the artists work was so unique once you saw it you would know it was them. I know that I’m not a big designer but by starting my own theme know I could eventually be on par with the designers I looked at. Another way the secondary research has helped me is by looking at all the different designers’ pieces of work, by looking at the work it has helped me think of ideas for my own. Even in this project and the last some of the ideas that I came up with wouldn’t have even been thought of without looking at the designer’s work. In this project I have learned a range of skills. Not long ago did I learn how to make a time lapse. This is something I have never touched on before. I knew to create a time lapse you would have to record yourselves designing something but I didn’t quite know the steps after that. Once the recording has finished, I learned ways I could turn it into a time lapse. This was all done on the software Adobe Premiere Pro. This software was new to me I have never been on It before. So, to me I was very excited to learn something new. Once the video was loaded up on the software, I was able to add sound to it. This was another thing that I have rarely touched on. To get the sound I had to convert it into a MP3 format, this is something I have done before and once the audio was converted to MP3 it was time to complete the Time Lapse. Another area that I developed in this project was my ability to use the Adobe Illustrator software. I knew how to roughly use it but I also knew that there was a completely different area that I still haven’t even touched. So, throughout the project I was learning knew tools and knew ways I could further my knowledge in this project. For example, before touching this project I didn’t know you could have more than one page located on the same project. This will come in handy when I create the sketches for the start of each project. With them being on one document it will make it easier for me to view them and make my decision what I like best. After finishing this project, I am most proud of my will power. Nearing the end of this project I was struck with a lot of problems. These problems didn’t seem to leave me alone. The problem occurred when I was finalizing my label. This is another indication that I should slow down when I design in each project as when it came to the end of this project, I was left finishing lot of problems that could have been sorted if I took my time with everything. But after I worked through each problem an end was in sight and I was very happy to see that end. This project has shown a lot of what I can achieve when I put my mind to it and even though I did encounter a lot of problems I worked through it and in the end, it was all worth it. I think throughout what I have just discussed there are areas that need some work and also these areas are the ones that I would do differently if I was given the chance to re do this project. For example, slowing down when creating/designing. As I just discussed nearing the end of the project there was a lot of areas on my design that needed work so if I was to do it again, I would make sure I check everything and double look over everything I do and then hopefully I won’t run into as many problems. Another area I would change is trying to highlight problems before they happen. I know I spoke about this earlier but this project has shown me how important that fact actually is. In the next project I want to work on my designing skills. More importantly how to use different paintbrushes. There are endless forms of paint brushes on Adobe Illustrator so being able to use a wide variety will truly help me. It will help me create a new form of style and also enable me to go more in depth with my design. Another are I would want to develop is using sketches to their full potential. I think I look over sketches and go straight to the design stage. So, by using a wide variety of different sketches in the next project will help me massively when it comes to designing those sketches. There are a lot of strengths that I believe I have obtained in this project and I think one of the main ones is being able to learn new skills. There are a lot of areas in this project that I didn’t know prior, so being able to learn these skills and use them effectively has helped me a lot. Another strength of mine is problem solving before starting this college course I would give up a lot of the time when a problem arose but when I joined this course, I knew that, that had to change so throughout all project that I have taken part in I have gone full force into any problem that arose and by doing so it has helped me designs progress even further than they would have if I would have not worked through the problems. I think that due to me having the level 2 course under my belt I was able to work through the fundamentals of design quite easily but overall, all the skills that I did learn from the last year and that starting project has helped me prepare for this project. It also helped me when problems arose instead of asking people what I should due that prior knowledge helped me work through those problems all by myself. There could have been a lot of audio problems in this project but luckily, I only encountered a few. One of the problems actually arose when I was completing a time lapse. For some reason one music track that I added went to the same speed as the video. This obviously didn’t sound good so I worked through the problem straight away. The only change that had to be made was changing the speed of the music track. A problem that I could have encountered was when I recording my peer review. My partner and I was filming our Peer review and while filming there could have been numerous problems that could have occurred. Some one might have walked in and spoke during the call and also either my partner and I could have cut out of the call but luckily these problems did not occur and throughout the project I wasn’t really challenged with many audio problems. Overall, I really enjoyed this project it has been my favourite one so far. I think due to the freedom given and not so tight guidelines I was able to do what I want to an extent. Everything that you can see in this project was done by myself so knowing that feels really good and that is another reason why I enjoyed this project so much. Going into the next project I will think about the problems that I encountered in this project and I will use that knowledge to help me work through the next project with ease and hopefully I won’t run into as many problems as I did in this project.
